While supporters continue the fight to save privately funded downpayment assistance as an option for working class families seeking homeownership, the National Multi Housing Council and National Apartment Association (NMHC/NAA) has launched a full-scale campaign attacking HR 6694 and urging Congress to maintain the ban on downpayment assistance.
These organizations are putting their own interests ahead of potential homebuyers and trying to limit opportunities for low and moderate income families to move into homeownership. They want families to stay locked into renting, helping apartment owners to pay their mortgage and build equity, instead of the homebuyers paying their own mortgage and building their own wealth. For those families that choose to rent, they should rent. But for families that want to purchase, they should not held back by the self-serving roadblocks these organizations.

Just goes to show downpayment assistance is a good thing if landlords are trying to keep people renting and not use the program!! Infuriating!
